Artist Bio

“My paintings are meant to be an interpretation of a place and time, capturing the feeling of the scene. My goal is to create visually stimulating paintings by savoring the light, shadow and color, and representing it for the viewer.”

John Gaitenby has spent much of his career painting North Carolina’s majestic coast, as well as varied Italian vistas. His passion for realism in his work is coupled with an understanding of paints inherent ambiguity. Currently living in the Raleigh-Durham area Gaitenby’s explorations of his surroundings are personal, often painting those scenes which make the most impact upon him.
