Walter Piepke
Artist Bio
Walter Piepke was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States at the age of 15. His family lived in Buffalo, NY, where he attended Park School, and after graduation he completed my BA at Hartwick College. Later he went to complete an MA at University of New Hampshire and an MFA at Rochester Institute of Technology. For many years Piepke was a teacher of foreign languages and art in New York State and then in North Carolina and Virginia, while also maintaining an art studio for his painting, watercolors, and printmaking.
My work is mainly figurative and I use bold colors, facial expressions, and the posture of the figures to reveal their relationships and to express nuances of emotion. The influences on my work are the Expressionists and the Baroque artists of northern Europe.
